We are still here and working! The only change, due to the potential spread of the COVID-19 Virus, and to guard the safety and health of our staff and community members, is that our front doors are locked to the public.  We have an outbox and inbox at the doors for drop offs and pickups.  Please call or email with questions.

Our mission is to promote excellence in planning, building, and development. We encourage public collaboration and engage best management practices and methods to ensure public safety, environmental protection, and quality architectural design in Nelson County. Our focus is to ensure that all buildings, structures, and related equipment are constructed in accordance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (USBC).

Building Permit Fees

Minimum fee for projects valued $0 up to $5,000 AND for all individual trade permits not associated with a new home $25.50
New homes valued at over $5,000 (includes trade permits at time of application) OR

Projects other than new homes valued at over $5,000 (all trade permits will be a minimum of $25 each and based on their value)

$5 per $1,000 of value
Agreement in Lieu of E&S Plan (Land Disturbing) fee $35-450
(A 2% Levy Fee is added to all Building Permit fees as per the State)

Payments at Building Inspections Department:  Cash, check or credit card (VISA, MasterCard).  Credit card payments available by calling 434-263-7080.
