The Office of the Treasurer is established by the Constitution of Virginia. As a Constitutional Officer, the Treasurer performs certain fiscal duties for both the Commonwealth of Virginia and Nelson County. The Treasurer is elected every four years by the citizens of the county. The Treasurer is responsible for the receipt and collection of revenue from local, state and federal sources.
The Treasurer is responsible for the safekeeping of County bank accounts, the sound investment of County funds to generate additional revenue and the accounting for and disbursement of funds to pay for the operation of County government in compliance with the Code of Virginia and as budgeted, authorized and directed by the Board of Supervisors.
The Treasurer’s Office is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 am until 5:00 pm
Due to a glitch in the printing vendor’s programming, 2023 Real Estate tax bills that are normally paid by lenders, were inadvertently mailed out to taxpayers. If you received your 2023 Real Estate tax bill and it is typically paid by your lender, please disregard the bill and do not pay it.
