The mission of the NELSON COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS is to provide a safe, nurturing, and a creative environment for learning. In partnership with families and community, we are committed to providing quality instruction that fosters student success, respect and diversity. We strive to enable students to become skilled, responsible and contributing members of our global society.
Nelson County Public Schools are committed to maintaining a high standard of quality for the individual student. The curriculum at all levels is aimed primarily at the expansion and development of each student’s intellectual, physical, social and emotional capabilities. Using the Virginia Standards of Learning as the minimum competencies expected of our students, teachers and administrators work with parents and the community to ensure that the needs of each child are met.
All schools are accredited by the Virginia State Department of Education and comply with the Virginia Standards of Accreditation, Virginia Standards of Quality and the Virginia Standards of Learning.
Nelson County has one private school, North Branch School (pre-school through 8th grade).
