January 2026 Declaration of Local Emergency-Winter Storm Fern Nelson County has declared a local emergency due to Winter Storm Fern. This, in conjunction with the Governor’s statewide State of Emergency declaration, better positions the County to mobilize resources, implement necessary operations, and request state and/or federal resources if needed following the storm.

Warming Center Opening Due to expected severe weather moving into the area on Saturday January 24, Nelson County will be opening a warming center at Lovingston Volunteer Fire Department located at 53 Baker Lane in Lovingston. This will allow citizens without heat or power a place to warm up and charge electronic devices. The
The Nelson County Health Department office will be closed from 8 :00AM to 12:00 PM on Friday January 23,2026 for District Staff Training. Normal business operations will resume at 1:30 PM on Friday.
