Traffic Alert June 12-18 2023

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Highway work requiring road/lane/structure closures is planned; however, work may be delayed/canceled due to weather or other issues. Items in italics contain new/updated information. For up-to-date information, call 511 or visit www.511Virginia.org.

District-wide activities:

Crews will perform various activities throughout the district to include, but are not limited to bridge & guardrail maintenance, brush/tree/limb cutting, pothole/surface/shoulder work, surface treatment/paving operations, work orders, mowing, boom axing, drainage repairs/work and roadside cleanup.

Amherst County:

Appomattox County:
Route 131 (Old Courthouse Rd.) from Route 460 BUS (Confederate Blvd.) to Route 460 Bypass (Richmond Highway) – Route 131 Reconstruction. Shoulder and lane closures expected. Estimated completion October, 2024.

Bedford County:
Route 221 (Forest Rd.) intersections Route 1425 Graves Mill and Route 1426 Gristmill Rd. Lane closures and changes in traffic pattern are likely. Expect lane closures on Route 221. Signing, Barricades, Flaggers and Police will be in place to direct traffic. Starting May 1, 2022 and est. comp. June 30, 2023.

Buckingham County:

Campbell County:
Route 29 N over NSRR, near airport –Bridge and approach work; est. comp. June 30, 2023.

Charlotte County:
Route 15 (Farmville Highway) at Route 15/360 BUS (Four Locust Highway) – Roundabout project. Lane closures and changes to traffic patterns expected. Estimated completion October 2024. Please note district-wide activities above.

Halifax County:
Route 733 – Bridge replacement project. Route 733 (East Hitesburg Rd.) will be closed to thru traffic between Route 602 (Hitesburg Church Rd.) and Route 734 (Red Banks Rd.) until approximately June 23, 2023. VDOT will provide adequate signs for the closure and detour during the closure. The detour will use Route 602 (Hitesburg Church Rd.) to Route 734 (Red Banks Rd.) back to Route 733 (East Hitesburg Rd.)
Route 360 (James D. Hagood Highway) from Route 607 (Rodgers Chapel Rd.) to Route 92 (Clover Rd.) – Safety improvements: Shoulder widening, Rumble strips, Guardrail replacement. Lane closures expected. Estimated completion November 2023.

Lynchburg:
Route 460 East/Route 29 North over Martin Street – Milling and Paving Work. One lane will be closed from 7 p.m. on Friday, June 9 through 6 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13. Weather permitting. Further work may be needed between Friday, June 16 and Tuesday, June 20.
Route 29/460 (Campbell Ave–Concord Turnpike) – Bridge replacement. Northbound 29/eastbound and westbound 460 speed limit 45 mph. Paving operations for Southbound lane structure and tie-ins to begin June 6, 2023. Lane closures changes in traffic pattern are likely. Completion July 31, 2023.

Nelson County:
Route 60 over James River – Bridge deck replacement. Lane closures and changes in traffic patterns. Estimated completion July 14, 2024.

Pittsylvania County:
Route 652 – Bridge deck replacement. Motorists should expect delays due to a bridge deck replacement on Route 652 in Pittsylvania County. Route 652 (Calvary Road) will be temporarily closed to thru traffic from Route 696 (Sago Road), to the intersection of Route 620 in Franklin County (Sago Road). This section of Route 652 will be closed 05/22/2023 – 06/13/2023.The Department of Transportation will provide adequate signs for the closure and detour of this portion of Route 652 (Calvary Rd) and will use Route 696 (Sago Rd) (Crossing into Franklin County 696 becomes Danville Turnpike) to Route 611 (Sago Road) to Route 620 (Sago Road) back to Route 652.
Route 29 at Bannister River – Road closure for bridgework. Motorists should expect delays on Route 29 at the Bannister River in the Tightsqueeze area of Pittsylvania County. The northbound bridge will close for repair and both north and south traffic will cross the southbound bridge. Bridgework began April 4, 2022 and is continuing until approximately August of 2023.

Route 460 at intersection with Route 307 – Milling and paving project. Use caution. A change in traffic pattern is in place. Turn lane to Route 307 remains open. Right lane is closed in advance of the intersection with Route 307 for westbound traffic.
