The goal of our Department of Social Services is to help the citizens of Nelson County achieve a realistic and attainable level of self-sufficiency within a safe, healthy environment. We will accomplish this by using our strengths and resources in a caring, professional manner, while providing a network of protection, support, and temporary financial assistance.

*To report suspected child abuse or neglect to Child Protective Services (CPS), please call the VDSS 24-hour, toll-free hotline at (800) 552-7096.

*To report suspected adult abuse to Adult Protective Services (APS), please call (888) 832-3858.

Region Ten provides mental health, intellectual disability, crisis and substance use services for adults and children living in the City of Charlottesville and the counties of Albemarle, Greene, Fluvanna, Louisa and Nelson. Established in 1969, Region Ten Community Services Board is part of a statewide network of 40 Community Service Boards working to provide mental health, intellectual disability and substance use services where they are needed – in the local community.
