Also as part of its mission, the NCCO offers the “first ever” ‘Music Magic’ String Education Program for Nelson County area youth.
Our dream is for everyone in our community to have the opportunity to make music part of their lives. Hands-on, in-class exposure to musical instruments, instruction by professional musicians and opportunities to perform in concerts offer life-long enrichment.
As a first step, the NCCO’s ‘Music Magic’ String Education Program gives 3rd grade – 5th grade students a chance to study violin and middle school students an option of violin, viola, cello and bass starting in September each year and a week long Summer Violin Camp.
Tye River, Rockfish Valley, Nelson Middle and North Branch Schools host after-school classes and all area students – public, private, home-schooled – are welcome. Classes offer weekly small-group lessons (2-5 students).
The tuition for each class includes professional instruction, a loaner instrument, music stand and materials. Limited need-based financial assistance is available on a sliding scale. Interested students should complete the application for the course and, if needed, the financial assistance application, available on our website: www.nelsoncco.org.
