o Chapter 2, Setting Our Direction
Chapter 2 of the Nelson 2042 Comprehensive Plan establishes the benchmark for where we are today
and where we want to be in the future. The Chapter includes the demographic profile for “Nelson
Today” and introduces the planning framework for “Nelson Tomorrow.” The planning framework
includes a plan Vision Statement supported by four Big Ideas and Goal Statements for each Plan
Element. Tasks:

• Review Plan Vision Statement
o Chapter 6, Protecting Valuable Resources
Chapter 6 highlights the features of the County’s natural and cultural environment that are essential to
the health and quality of life of residents, such as, climate, topography, sensitive landscapes, water
resources, and historic resources. The strategies for this section address protection of valuable
environmental resources, sustainable development, additional planning for protection of historic
resources, and planning for natural hazards and climate change.

o Chapter 8, Serving the Community
Chapter 8 provides an overview of existing conditions of Nelson County’s community facilities and
identifies important investment priorities for the County to continue providing superior community
services and quality of life. Strategies in this chapter focus on enhancing efficiency and access to
community services, expanding recreation opportunities, continued improvement and development of
water and sewer infrastructure, and responsible planning through local partnerships. Tasks:

3. Next Steps
o Submit Comments on Chapters 2, 6, and 8 by 1/25/23 (County)
o Incorporate Edits and Continue Drafting Housing & Economy Chapters (BG)
