The ACRJ Authority Board recently contracted Moseley Architects for its Albemarle-

Charlottesville Regional Jail Community Based Corrections Plan (CBCP) Planning Study. The jail’s Virginia Department of Corrections (VDOC) rated capacity is 329 and its recent Average Daily Population was 336 including 67 inmates on home electronic monitoring. Inmate population has been as high as 450 inmates in the past. The original 1975 design had rated capacity of 209, increased by 120 with the 2000 addition and multiple renovations followed.

ACRJ Authority is asking for input from the public and will be addressing any questions or concerns during the meetings. “Having broad community input is a vital step in the jail planning process”, says Colonel Martin Kumer, ACRJ Superintendent. That process and timeline are established by the Virginia Board of Corrections. Other regulatory bodies that review and approve the process are the Board of Local and

Regional Jails (BLRJ), Department of Corrections (DOC), Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), Department of Planning and Budget (DPB), Senate Finance, House Appropriations Committees and the Treasury Board. The proposed project planning, design and construction schedule are below:
