Nelson County Wineries Win Big in Virginia Governor’s Cup Competition
Within the Virginia Wine community, a sense of anticipation approaches each year with the announcement of the Virginia Governor’s Cup competition results.
Year after year, the competition recognizes the best wines being produced in the Commonwealth. Since its start in 1982, the competition has evolved to become one of the most stringent and thorough wine competitions in the United States.
After receiving a record 544 entries in 2021, world-class judges awarded 47 wineries, cideries and meaderies with 96 gold medals. Of these 96, the 12 highest scoring red and white wines will become the Governor’s Cup Case, with one taking home the coveted Cup. New to the competition, an expert panel of cider judges will select the Best in Show Cider.
