New Law Provides for Ballot Drop Boxes

Nelson County to have at Registrar’ Office & All Polling Places

In light of COVID-19, the Virginia General Assembly passed a new law providing for Absentee Ballot Drop Off locations for the November 3, 2020 elections.

Nelson County citizens will find an Absentee Ballot Drop Box in the General Registrar’s Office on 571 Front St., Lovingston beginning September 18, Monday – Friday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and also those same hours Saturday, October 24 and Saturday, October 31. All polling places will also have Absentee Ballot Drop Off locations on Election Day November 3.

These Drop Off Locations will provide a safe and socially distant alternative means for voters to return their completed Absentee Ballots, says a September 4 Virginia Department of Elections Advisory. The Drop Boxes will be clearly and visibly marked as an “Official Ballot Drop Box.”  The new law applies only to the November 3 2020 election.
