Burgess Postcard Day at Oakland Museum
May 14 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Burgess Postcard Day at Oakland Museum. 10AM to 4PM. Oakland Museum will unveil a new temporary exhibit featuring hand-colored postcards showing scenes of Nelson County in the early 20th century taken by W.E. Burgess of Scottsville. No charge. Donations are welcome. Come and bring a friend. The museum is offering to scan any Burgess cards brought in on Saturday. The cards will be returned as soon as they are scanned and the museum will send the owner a free cd or dvd of their scans. The cards show scenes of Lovingston, Shipman, Oak Ridge, Arrington, Tye River, Schuyler, Faber, Norwood, Wingina, Gladstone, Piney River, Massies Mill, Lowesville, Afton and Crabtree Falls and were apparently taken between 1900 and the mid-1920s. Oakland is Open Saturday 10AM to 4PM and Sunday 1PM to 4PM. 434-263-8400.
