Outdoor Recreation

Begin a lifetime of adventure and start TRACKING your TRACK TRAIL adventures in your online nature journal today.
Visit the Nelson County TRACK TRAIL at the Virginia Blue Ridge Railway Trail in Piney River.
Kids in Parks provides a network of family friendly trails, called TRACK TRAILS, that connect various public lands in an attempt to get kids "unplugged", outdoors and reconnected with nature for their health and the health of our parks. Each TRACK TRAIL has a series of brochure-led self-guided adventures designed to turn an ordinary hike into a fun-filled adventure. Furthermore, kids earn PRIZES for TRACKing their TRACK TRAIL adventures in their online nature journal website.
Find the brochures in a kiosk at the PIney River trailhead ( Rte 151) of the VA Blue Ridge Railway Trail or go online at www.kidsinparks.com to find more information.

A morning of contemplative walking and nature-inspired writing/drawing on the scenic Rockfish Valley Loop Trail. Experience the intersection of three awareness practices: mindfulness, walking, and creative expression in writing or drawing. Each practice enriches the others; the focus of this walk will be awakening the five senses. No writing or drawing experience necessary.
Best for adults and teens able to walk in mindful silence. We'll open and close with a discussion circle.
Bring a light snack, water bottle, pen and small notebook and/or drawing pad and colored pencils
Proceeds go to NCPRD for outdoor activity scholarships for kids
