NOAA Basic SKYWARN CLASS Webinar July 10. 6PM to 8PM. NOAA is looking for more spotters in Nelson County and the class is free and open to the public.  SKYWARN® is a national network of volunteer severe weather spotters. The spotters are trained by local National Weather Service Forecast Offices on how to spot severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, hail and flooding. In some parts of the country, spotters also report snowfall and ice accumulation. This SKYWARN® Spotter Class is offered free of charge from the combined efforts of your local National Weather Service Forecast Office and the Nelson County Department of Emergency Services. A National Weather Service meteorologist will teach the class and provide related materials. The classes are designed to educate the public on weather threats in this area, as well as strengthen the ties between the NWS and the local community. The more spotters the NWS has out there, the faster vital ground truth information gets to the NWS forecasters who make the decisions to issue lifesaving weather warnings.  Registration is required to attend the class! Registration closes July 8 at 11AM. Register at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/skywarn-basics-nelson-county-va-tickets-109833964344
