2020 Census Digital Action Weekend: May 1-3

Make sure Nelson County is counted!

We have reached an important milestone – nearly 60% of Virginia households have responded to the 2020 Census, putting our state in the top 10 nationwide. Thank you for your continued efforts to encourage census response, especially during this challenging period when resources are stretched in managing the public health crisis.

As local governments look ahead to significant reductions in budgets based on the economic impact of the pandemic, a complete and accurate census count is all the more important to maximize federal resources for your community’s schools, roads, health centers, emergency management services and more. We are making strong progress toward a complete count, but there are still 40% of households that need to respond to the census and response rates have slowed over the last couple weeks.

Give your response rates a boost by joining our Digital Action Weekend on May 1-3. This is a simple way to remind people about the importance of the census, the impact it has on the future of their community, and how they can respond from the safety of their own home – either online, by phone or via the paper questionnaire that was sent to households over the last couple of weeks.

Post 2020 Census messages this weekend (May 1-3) through virtual forums – on social media, with website banners, in email blasts, on community access stations – whatever ways you regularly use to reach your community. Pass this information along to staff who manage your communications and include #2020Census when posting on social platforms.

Our 2020 Census Resource Guide has sample posts, videos and graphics for encouraging people to take action and respond to the census at 2020census.gov.
