Department of Forestry Fall Foliage Report-October 21

Report for the weekend of October 21. Virginia in the fall is always beautiful, but in some years, that beauty is more subdued.  Late summer drought this year has taken its toll on the forests, resulting in duller yellows, less vibrant reds, and a lot of early leaf fall.  Now is a great time to experience the splendor of the mountains before it fades.   Individual trees vary, so with a little searching, you’ll still be able to find the familiar reds, oranges, and golden yellows you expect.  Areas above 3000 feet in elevation are past their peak, but still well worth a look.  The lower elevations, including much of Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway, will be at their best this weekend…
