Shenandoah National Park will host several events from Saturday April 15 to April 23 as part of a celebration for National Park Week.
Entrance fees will be waived for all national park sites, including Shenandoah National Park on April 15-16 and April 22-23.
The week kicks off Saturday, April 15, with a ranger presentation at 11am at the Byrd Visitor Center, at Mile 51 on Skyline Drive.
On Friday, April 21, the events include a special presentation, book signing and stargazing event at Byrd Visitor Center. Author Paul Bogard will share stories and questions regarding his book “The End of Night: searching for Natural Darkness in the Age of Artificial Light” from 7:30 to 8:30 pm. Afterwards, participants can move outside for a public star party at Big Meadows. The stargazing will continue from 8:30 until 11PM.
On Saturday, April 22, at Dickey Ridge Visitor Center on mile 4.6 on Skyline Drive, and Byrd Visitor Center, the annual Junior Ranger Day is scheduled. Children and adults can examine nature items on touch tables, search for clues in indoor scavenger hunts and try on ranger uniforms. Those attending Junior Ranger Day can check out a park patrol vehicle or ambulance, join a wildland firefighter working a fire hose or meet a live screech owl.
